Albert Costa of Vall Llach

Albert Costa, an agricultural engineer specialized in oenology, embarked on a journey of vinicultural exploration following the completion of his studies. Venturing across Australia, New Zealand, and California, he honed his craft as a winemaker in diverse international settings. Upon his return to Porrera, Albert undertook the role of winemaker at the family-owned Vall Llach winery, immersing himself in vineyard tasks to deepen his understanding of terroir.

After the passing of his father, Enric Coasta, 2013 marked a pivotal moment as Albert assumed leadership alongside Lluis Llach, eventually becoming the majority owner. Continuing his tenure as winemaker, Albert has garnered acclaim, receiving prestigious awards such as the title of Best Winemaker in Catalonia in 2017. His wines have consistently earned high accolades, reflecting his unwavering dedication to excellence.

Recognized as one of Spain’s Top 10 Winemakers to Watch by Alvaro Palacios, Albert’s passion, prudence, and commitment to capturing the essence of Priorat is apparent in every bottle produced by Cellar Vall Llach. Embracing continuous growth, he remains dedicated to expanding his expertise in organic farming, biodynamic agriculture, and vineyard sustainability.

In addition to his hands-on involvement in winemaking, Albert shared his wealth of knowledge as a guest lecturer at various Catalan universities, contributing to the next generation of oenological talent.

Albert resides in Porrera along with his wide Isa and their two children.
