Tony Ingle

Tony Ingle was born in England in 1963 and initially pursued a career in finance, studying economics at London University. A career in Japanese and American merchant banks ensued.

In 1990, Tony traveled to California and Australia and discovered a passion for wine. He first found a job in the London wine trade, and then came his first vintage stint at Chapel Down Winery in East Sussex. This was followed by Domaines Virginie in France’s Languedoc, where he worked with Australian winemaker John Weeks. Vintages in Australia followed by France every six months meant experience in Victoria at Tahbilk, The Loire, Bordeaux, and Languedoc as well as Padthaway and McLaren Vale with the famous Tintara cellars. In 1998, the Ingle family moved to Renmark, and Tony began working with Angove Family Winemakers in the time for his 15th vintage—a long way from his banking career in 1990.

John Angove’s vision to move to organic grape production and premium McLaren Vale winemaking allowed Tony to further his interest in natural grape growing and small-batch winemaking with exceptional parcels of McLaren Vale Shiraz and Grenache. Since the first vintage of the flagship Medhyk Shiraz in 2008, the Angove family have increased their presence in McLaren Vale; Angove Family Winemakers are now one of the region’s most important grape growers and buyers of fruit, and they’re widely considered leaders of organic wine production.
