Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Sutter Home Malbec is an intense violet-purple color with alluring aromas
of blackberry and plum with hints of violet and cocoa. On the palate, fresh,
concentrated flavors of blackberry and juicy black cherries mingle with lavish
vanilla and spice notes. Velvety tannins carry the flavors to a soft, full finish that
lingers on the lips. Medium-bodied and smooth, our Malbec is approachable and
food-friendly—the perfect wine to share with friends and family.

Vineyard Notes
Though traditionally a French grape, Malbec best expresses itself when grown in
the rugged high altitude vineyards of Argentina. Sutter Home Malbec is crafted
with grapes harvested in Mendoza, the world’s premier Malbec growing region.
Mendoza lies at the base of the Andes Mountains at a very high altitude, where
the soils are rocky and meager and the warm, sunny days are tempered by cold
winds that blow off the mountains at night. Here, the grapes ripen slowly and
enjoy extended hang-time, which allows the grapes to develop the concentrated
flavors, deep color, bright acidity and smooth tannins that make Argentinian
Malbec so distinctive and desirable.
Winemaker Notes
Mendozan Malbec is celebrated for its intense flavors and luxuriously plush
texture. Our winemakers embraced Argentinian traditions, and have crafted a
wine that showcases this beautiful Mendoza fruit. After harvest, grapes are gently
fermented to protect fresh fruit flavors and aromas. The wine is then enhanced
with French and American oak, which imparts additional body as well as toasted
vanilla notes that complement the ripe berry-cherry flavors.
Food Pairing Notes
Porcini mushroom risotto, grilled steaks, sticky barbecued ribs, and blue cheeses.
