Terra d'Oro Pinot Grigio 2019
The 2019 Pinot Grigio entices with aromas of ripe stone fruit, green apple, pear and honeydew, all accentuated by floral and mineral notes. On the palate, the wine enters with generous juicy stone fruit and honeydew melon, followed by a midpalate of fresh cantaloupe and a core of minerality that lead to a long, elegant finish.
This wine hails from Clarksburg, an appellation located 30 miles east of Amador County. This AVA enjoys cooler temperatures than surrounding regions thanks to the breezes that flow up the Sacramento River Delta from San Francisco Bay. This allows grapes to ripen slowly and develop depth in flavor and aroma—perfect conditions for growing aromatic white grape varieties such as Pinot Grigio. We used four clones from two of our Clarksburg vineyards for added complexity.
The grapes were harvested at night to preserve their bright flavor and acidity. At the winery, the fruit was gently pressed and the juice fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature to bring out the variety’s clean fruit character. The wine spent three months on the lees for further complexity.
