Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Southern Napa, like its neighbor, Carneros, is open to the cooling influence of
the San Pablo Bay, so grapes grown here ripen slowly, developing concentrated
flavors. Vera’s vineyard, named to honor Vera Trinchero-Torres has a cool microclimate
and chalky soils ideal for producing classic fruit-focused Chardonnay.
Vineyard Notes
Universally speaking, 2016 produced lower yields but excellent quality and
concentration. Due in part to the drought, but more so an extended period of
cool weather during the bloom period in May and June, our grape clusters were
on the light side and our berries stayed smaller with thicker skins. The consistently
warm summer led to slightly earlier-than-normal ripening on the valley floor
and high-stress conditions in our mountain vineyards. The resulting wines are
beautifully fruity and focused with terrific acidity.
Winemaker Notes
“The second vintage of our Vera’s Vineyard Chardonnay was 100% barrel
fermented in French oak (50% new). We stir the lees weekly while the wine is
undergoing 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 15 months in the
same barrels. This wine boasts a combination of floral, mineral, oaky characters
and honey inviting you in to discover more. Soft and creamy on the palate, this
wine is coupled with good acidity. It is very balanced and contains flavors of
spiced pears, peaches and honeydew melon. To round out this complex and rich
Chardonnay, the medium to full-body finishes with a touch of vanilla sweetness.“
