TNV Haystack Petite Sirah 2014
October 25–28, 2014
22 months in French oak [60% new
The Atlas Peak region, Napa Valley’s highest appellation, is home to our Haystack Vineyard. Perched 1,500 feet above the Napa Valley floor, this picturesque 21.54- acre vineyard has shallow, volcanic, rocky soils that stress the vines, which results in low yields of small, intensely concentrated berries and expressive wines with complex layers of flavor.
“Early” was the key word for the growing season, from budbreak to harvest. Substantial rain in late February and early March relieved most of the stress of the previous year’s drought conditions and set up the vines for a vigorous start. Summer weather was mild with no heat spikes, perfect for ripening the grapes, and wines from this vintage overall are focused and beautifully balanced.
A rich, complex wine, with inviting aromas of blueberry jam, red plum, and baking spice. On the palate, the wine opens with layered flavors of blue fruit and vanilla that are beautifully framed by polished tannins and ends with a leisurely, lingering finish.
