Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This elegant wine is a study in balance and complexity. Ruby red color with exotic aromas of incense, Asian spice, white pepper, rose petal, and soil. Thrilling mocha, chocolate, mint, and maple syrup flavors all contribute to a rich and powerful wine that is built to last. Pure boysenberry, blueberry, and mandarin orange fruit join with tea leaf on the slightly chalky finish. The Wiley Vineyard bottling is accessible today yet it will age gracefully.
Vineyard Notes
Wiley Vineyard was planted in 1972 in the famed “Deep End”, the westernmost portion of Anderson Valley. Wiley is a true cool-climate site, resting on benchlands just nine miles from the Pacific Ocean. This vineyard is renowned for its bucolic setting and elegant, finessed wines from 40 year old vines. I am now honored and privileged to farm Wiley Vineyard, truly world-class terroir.
Vineyard Notes
The 2018 growing season in Anderson Valley was
characterized by early, heavy rain and bud break,
moderate summertime temperatures, and relatively
early harvest. Late summer heat pushed the grapes to
ripeness, though we were ready to harvest at precisely
the right time. Though temperaturs crept up in late
August, we allowed the grapes the time they needed
to ripen before harvesting Wiley Vineyard, between
September 20 and 26, night picking grapes and trucking
them into the winery as the sun rose each day. Grape
yields were average and fruit quality was exceptional.
