Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2018 Signal Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir is amazingly
aromatic for its youth, with exotic spice, white pepper,
and herb tones wafting from the glass to augment
gorgeous fruit. The bouquet is stunning, offering up a
complex and exotic nose of garrigue, rose petals, and
blackberries. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and
intense, with bright acids and excellent focus and grip.
Complex tar and rose notes belie its youth and show its
exotic potential.
Vineyard Notes
Signal Ridge Vineyard was planted in 1999 and is
perched atop Cold Spring Mountain, 2,642 feet above
the Pacific Ocean, in the heart of the Mendocino Ridge
appellation. Signal Ridge is exposed to the elements,
which has a naturally devigorating effect. This vineyard
is characterized by its intense fruit and savory notes. I’ve
traveled the world and have seen thousands of vineyards
and I’ve never found one that quite compares to Signal
Ridge.
Winemaker Notes
Following a lengthy growing season characterized by
moderate temperatures throughout the spring and
summer, the 2018 harvest played out like a dream
with none of the heat spikes that characterized recent
seasons. Harvest began around a week later than in
2017, and fruit quality was high with exceptional
yields, thanks to the consistent growing conditions.
