Joel Gott Alakai Grenache 2014
The 2014 California Grenache from Joel Gott has aromas of blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, and hints of vanilla and spice. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced and clean, rounded out by ripe fruit flavors and smooth tannins.
Throughout California, the 2014 vintage experienced low winter rainfall, early veraison and moderate summer temperatures which led to an earlier than normal harvest. Fruit from the cool, marine-influenced Monterey appellation experienced warmer than average night temperatures helping to mature fruit faster than normal resulting in good acidity. Santa Barbara gave intense flavorful fruit with good color and concentration. Fruit from Napa Valley experienced optimal growing conditions with warm, even summer temperatures creating fruit with dark color, concentration and character. Blended, the various appellations produce a balanced, flavorful Grenache.
