Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The Folie à Deux 2013 Zinfandel opens with jammy berry aromas, framed by notes of allspice, mocha and cedar. The bright fruit flavors, balanced acidity and medium tannins in this Zinfandel complement its soft, round mouthfeel and long, lingering finish. For an excellent pairing, serve this wine with braised pork topped with a spiced curry sauce and rosemary herbs.

Vineyard Notes
The Dry Creek Valley’s warm summer days—tempered by morning fog from the Pacific Ocean—and its well-drained, stony soils translate to highly concentrated and complex fruit. The 2013 season brought relatively warm temperatures in the spring and early summer. As a result, both Zinfandel and Petite Sirah grapes ripened quickly and evenly, creating wines with an excellent balance of acidity and tannins.
Production Notes
Grapes for the Folie à Deux 2013 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir are sourced from prime vineyards located in California’s prestigious Sonoma Coast AVA. Four times larger than Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast contains more than 500,000 acres, primarily along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean, and extends from San Pablo Bay to the border of Mendocino County. Known for its cool climate and high rainfall relative to other parts of Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast is known for producing world-class Pinot Noir. Aged eleven months in primarily French oak barrels, this 100% Pinot Noir showcases the best Sonoma Coast has to offer: Rich, powerful and mouth-watering.
Winemaker Notes
The grapes for this Zinfandel underwent a three-day cold soak, and a starter yeast was used to initiate fermentation at 75°F. During a maceration period of 11 to 15 days, the juice was pumped over the skins daily to maximize the extraction of the variety’s rich flavor and tannins. Delestage—an oxygenation technique—was employed during active fermentation to soften the wine and showcase its fruit character. This Zinfandel was aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels.

The 2013 Zin was very impressive. I was struck by how rich and complex it was. I fills your mouth with fruit and finishes with a very pleasant warmth. I killed my sense of smell and therefor my scene of taste by using to much oximatazalone to clear my sinuses earlier in my life so I can't describe accurate fruit tastes or bouquet, but I can tell you this wine is superb IMHO.
